FINANCE
Vestry Finance Training
& Stewardship Training
The Vestry Finance Workshop is scheduled for July 15, 2007 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. A Stewardship Workshop will take place on August 11, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. AndrewÕs in Peachtree City. St. JulianÕs would like to send two Vestry members and two members of the congregation to the Stewardship training. Debra and Kerry offered to represent the Vestry. Stewart asked for suggestions for non-Vestry attendees.
Monthly & YTD Financial Statements
John gave out the May financial statements (attached). Salaries have been paid but have not yet been posted.
IRS Tax Resolution
The $11,431 owed to us by the IRS has been received, along with $2,389 in interest. The principal was initially deposited into the Wachovia account but was transferred to the restricted youth fund in June. The interest was deposited into the operating fund.
Triennial Audit
Stewart will follow up with Pat Keck about this.
$ Requests
At Susan LomaxÕs request, the Vestry approved $75 to purchase mulch for the Memorial Garden because of the severe drought. It will be paid for out of the Memorial Garden fund.
The Vestry approved $400 for blinds for the Parish Hall, with an additional $500 already approved by the ECW for this purchase. Leeman offered to donate $100 of the $400, the balance to come from the Operating Fund.
Ken has been working on replacing the carpet in the Gathering Space. The Vestry agreed that the interest from the IRS will be allocated to replacing the carpet with carpet tiles, not only in the Gathering Space, but also in the acolyte room, adult education room, and two Sunday school rooms. Stewart will get two estimates for this work.
Use of Building
Linda read a note from the Town & Country Garden Club saying that they would not be meeting in June, July, or August but will be back again in September. They thanked us for allowing them the pleasure of meeting in our facility.
Homeschool Haven has asked us if
they could use our facility on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
during the school year. They would
pay us $100 per session. Forty to sixty children would attend. They would want use of the Parish Hall,
kitchen facilities, and classrooms.
Their brochure shows that their mission is compatible with ours. Issues to be resolved or documented are
insurance; possible written lease-type agreement; and our expectations of their
responsibilities, such as cleaning up, turning off utilities, keeping supplies
separate, etc. After discussion on
our potential after-school program (see below), it was decided that Stewart
will contact them to see if they are still interested in our facility, and if
so, proceed with implementing this plan.
OUTREACH
After-School Program
Debra has spoken with Midway United Methodist Church about their after-school program. To implement a program like this would be a huge and intensive effort for a church our size. The Vestry decided not to pursue this issue any further, but that having the Homeschool Haven use our facilities may also accomplish our outreach effort.
Newcomers
A luncheon for newcomers with the Vestry is planned for August 19 after the 10:30 a.m. service. Leeman and Pat Keck will be organizing it, and Debra and Kerry have volunteered to help with the cooking, etc. They will come up with the menu and estimated cost, which is believed to be about $100 - $150. Three Vestry members offered to donate $25 each to this cause.
.
PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE
A locking file cabinet for
confidential information has been donated
Since Adrian could not attend, we donÕt know how many people have
completed the on-line training. Stewart handed out a document from the Diocese
on child abuse reporting laws (attached).
FACILITIES
Various needed maintenance items were discussed. John Benedict has offered to help the Tallants with these types of projects.
PASTORAL CONCERNS
Health issues of various parishioners, relatives, and friends were discussed. At the end of the meeting, Stewart led a prayer for these people.
The next Vestry meeting will be held on July 17 at 7:30 p.m.
