Contemplative Book Study

Come Grow with us…

The Contemplative Book Study is a small group exploring contemplative practices and literature.

Most of the books we read are written by Christian contemplatives, but we are open to exploring the works of contemplative masters from all faiths.  In general, we spend 6 to 8 weeks on a book. The responsibility of facilitating the group rotates with each book. And the group decides together what we’ll read next.

Many members of this group have a background in Centering Prayer, but this is not needed. We do ask that you are faithful in your reading (generally 2-3 hours per week) and that you make every effort to attend the sessions. Typically, new study members join at the beginning of each book; and folks are welcome to skip a book as needed.

For more information, please contact Julie Windsor.

Sample of books we’ve studied:

  • Bridges to Contemplative Living with Thomas Merton
  • Spiritual Formation by Henry Nouwen
  • Peace is Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh
